Partial and complete dentures provided by the oral care specialists at Gluckstadt Family Dentistry are designed to closely match the shape and contours of your periodontal structure. Some include special hardware components for improved fit.
As firmly as your dentures fit, you might still like to apply a small amount of denture adhesive when installing it each morning. This can also help reduce the chances of stray food particles infiltrating the base and irritating your gums, while also helping to securely hold it in your mouth.
Even if a few stray food particles do manage to infiltrate the base of your dentures. This can occur as the day goes on or after you have eating something that required a lot of chewing and grinding.
Should this occur, it’s best to uninstall the denture and rinse it clean under running water. You should then dry the base with a clean paper towel before applying a new bead of denture adhesive.
Each evening your denture will need to be included in your basic oral hygiene regimen. It’s important to clear away residual denture adhesive while also providing a smooth surface to reapply the denture adhesive the next day.
You should then brush all the surfaces of your denture with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a small amount of denture polish. You should then soak your dentures overnight in water and store them in a safe place.
