Oral accident and injury prevention plans can make a huge difference in your likelihood to suffer from dental damage. However, they are called accidents for a reason and sometimes no matter what you do, they’re going to occur. Thus, it is important to have a treatment plan in place to help care for your smile should severe dental damage come to pass. This includes caring for your smile if you suffer from teeth that are knocked out or even lost restorations in the form of lost fillings or crowns.

Oral accidents and emergencies can arise in multiple different ways. If you ever have any teeth knocked out, it is important to help rinse out the area to prevent contamination from occurring. This help lowers your risk of infection. In addition, look for the tooth that was knocked out and place it in a liquid product as it can potentially be reinserted back into your socket. You can either place it in milk or a similar substance such as a cell growth medium. If you visit your dentist within one hour of having a tooth knocked out, you have the highest chance of having the tooth re-inserted into your mouth successfully.

If you have any dental fillings or dental crowns, you must exercise caution so that they are not damaged. However, if an oral accident or injury arises, and you lost them, you must take the necessary steps to keep your smile safe. If a dental filling is lost, the area that was covered will be vulnerable. Place a piece of sugarless gum over the area. In addition, dental cement will also work. If you have lost a crown, place a cotton swab dabbed and clove oil over the vulnerable area. Visit your dentist for repairs or replacements.
