The welfare of your child is everything, particularly so when you’re expecting. To keep your baby healthy during all the trimesters of pregnancy, it’s imperative to checkup the dentist’s office for certain procedures like regular checkups and cleanings. We often get asked about X-rays by expecting mothers. Unlike what you might think, X-rays are safe for women about to have children; no one dose of radiation from an X-ray is big enough to impact a developing embryo, and we’ll take additional safety measures by shielding your abdomen with an X-ray shield.

Additionally, most medicines used in dentistry are safe for women expecting children, as are anesthetics used in advanced procedures. While X-rays, oral medicines, and dental cleanings are safe for women about to have children, whitenings and cosmetic dentistry procedures may be best left until after the baby is born. Although the risks associated with such procedures are extremely unlikely, it’s best to put non-emergency services such as these off until after the birth. If you are pregnant, please reach out to us so that we can put together a good service plan for your health and the welfare of your child.
